One of the most common fears in the world is the fear of heights. This condition is called acrophobia, and it is more common than you might think. One in every 15 people in the world say they were afraid of heights at some point in their life. The scariest part of overcoming your fear is stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing your fear first hand. But how are you supposed to work your way up to that step? Today, Empower Adventures shows you how to overcome your fear of heights through zip lining. 

Mentally Prepare

Step one in making any major decision should always be to think it through. Overcoming a fear isn’t something you can just casually do; it takes preparation. Allow some time to prepare yourself for facing this fear mentally. Just signing up for a canopy tour might put you out of your comfort zone. Imagine stepping out onto the zip line platform, when you are ready to overcome your fear in a safe and secure way. Picture yourself flying down the zip line, fully experiencing the feeling of weightlessness. One of the best ways to start fighting your fears is to visualize yourself conquering them. Just by visualizing the process, you can reassure yourself of the outcome of the experience. Fully understanding that you will not fall off of the zip line or get injured will bring a sense of comfort as you step up to the tower.

Take a Deep Breath

Don’t forget to breathe! Slowing inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth will slow down your heart rate, as more blood oxygen is available to your body. If you have problems feeling calm and you start feeling anxious, take a step back and take deep breaths. Once you are out on the zip line course, you will be able to breathe easier and experience the air blowing through your hair on the way down!

Slowly but Surely

Overcoming a fear takes time. It is very important not to be too hard on yourself throughout this process, as this can add more stress to the situation. Understand that you may not overcome your fear on your first attempt, and that’s okay! Work your way up in order to conquer your fear with confidence.
